International Award: Plasmatreater AS 400 system honoured by the "iF product design award 2007"

In one of the world's most prestigious design competitions the new "Plasmatreater AS400" laboratory system from Plasmatreat GmbH has been awarded the "if product design award 2007" for outstanding industrial design. This laboratory unit allows computer-controlled precision tests for pretreatment of the most diverse material surfaces using atmospheric-pressure plasma.

About 2,000 products are submitted to the renowned jury for evaluation every year by companies from 37 nations. The competition was set up to heighten awareness of excellent design, to highlight outstandingly successful combinations of design and function and to point out to users where key aspects of distinction are to be found in the great diversity of available products.

In the "Industry" category Plasmatreat together with bgp-design, Stuttgart, received the much sought after accolade. In just the same way that Plasmatreat, a medium-sized company based in Steinhagen in Westphalia, has long been regarded as world market leader in the field of atmospheric-pressure plasma systems, the team of designers around Knut Braake and Stefan Grobe is without doubt one of the top ten German industrial design groups.

This success for "technology minded design" advocated by bgp-design demands close and confidential collaboration between manufacturer and designer. The blueprints for the modern housing drawn up by the designers must not only show an attractive visual appearance, but must also take fully into account the mechanical fittings to be installed in it later by the manufacturer. Equally important are factors such as cost reduction, reduced assembly effort and simple handling of the unit.

Striking combination of design and function: the Plasmatreater AS 400 honoured by the "iF Award.

The transparent plexiglass hood can be swung up and over by more than 90°. The computer integrated into the installation allows exact and reproducible specification of the test parameters.

The aesthetics of the housing of the Plasmatreat laboratory system are eye-catching. Clear lines and forms, the combination of sheet steel and tinted plexiglass allowing viewing of the plasma pretreatment process as it proceeds testify to professional industrial design.
A unique feature of the installation is without doubt the integrated ventilation system. Such facilities are usually fitted on top of the unit and hence not very attractive. In this case the ventilation system has been elegantly installed to the side inside the housing. Only narrow ventilation slots indicate its presence from the outside.
With this award the innovative technological approach of Plasmatreat has again been acknowledged. The "iF Award" will be presented to the winners of all categories in March 2007 at the Cebit Exhibition in Hanover.
