Plasmatreat opens new Technology Center in Silicon Valley

In spring Plasmatreat USA and the subsidiary 4th State marked the opening of a 1500 m² Technology Center in Hayward, California by hosting a Surface Tech Days Conference.

The extensive laboratories and technical facilities are used jointly by both companies. Whilst Plasmatreat in Hayward focuses on individual customer tests and continuing the development of all pretreatment processes based on atmospheric pressure plasma, 4th State acts as a toll manufacturer and developer of new low-pressure plasma processes.

More than 200 visitors registered for the Open House event in just a few days. “We had certainly not anticipated such high attendance levels", reports Andy Stecher, CEO Plasmatreat USA, "but we were all the more delighted because we had planned to offer our guests something rather special." The two-day Surface Days Conference featured not only first-rate talks and live demonstrations; it also provided a platform for an exchange of ideas between engineers, scientists and application specialists who all face exactly the same challenge each day – finding solutions to surface-related problems in component manufacturing.

The series of talks given by 18 national and international speakers was tailored to the technical partnerships and close relationships which Plasmatreat has established with other suppliers and institutes over the years. The presentations related to the latest applications and developments, including the use of plasma in composite materials and hybrid manufacturing, OSEE measurements to monitor surface quality, new error analysis methods, the plasma treatment of micro-fluid and diagnostic systems in biomedicine and the challenges involved in the plasma treatment of curved electronic displays and 3D objects. Subjects covered in the talks were explored in greater depth in intensive panel discussions, where each visitor had the opportunity to discuss their own technical issues with surface specialists.

Live dynamic demonstrations on both days of the conference involving all current plasma systems generated a great deal of enthusiasm among the visitors. Whether atmospheric or low pressure plasma, for the pretreatment of plastics, foils, metal, glass or ceramics, in micro-electronics manufacturing or digital printing, for the medical, aerospace or automotive industry, for consumer goods, textile manufacturing and many, many more – the Plasmatreat / 4th State team took great pleasure in showing their guests the full spectrum of capabilities already available at the new Technology Centre.
