USA: Plasmatreat at the Process Cleaning Expo 2010
From May 5-6, 2010 Plasmatreat US participated in the trade-show Process Cleaning Expo (PCx).
The only event in North America dedicated to cleaning in the industrial manufacturing process was held in Louisville, Ky., at the Kentucky International Convention Center. Cleaning is an integral part of most production processes, and PCx 2010 was created by Process Cleaning Magazine to address the growing concerns manufacturers face today in regards to industrial parts and precision cleaning.
Nick Rollick (VP sales) and Jeff Leighty (Sales & Business Development Manager) demonstrated to the visitors how Openair® Plasma can augment or even eliminate other types of cleaning systems. The team had set up an FG 5001 generator combined with the RD-1004 rotation jet mounted on an XYZ robot in a Plasmatreat enclosure. Visitors could experience the plasma effect live: To show the wettability of plastics after plasma treatment plastic sample cards were treated only partially. Next the card was manually sprayed with water. Now the beneficial effect of plasma treatment became clearly visible: A uniform film of water covers the treated area (hydrophilic), while on the untreated part the water beads up (hydrophobic). The explanation: By the input of high energy (plasma) the surface energy of the plastic is raised to over 72 mJ/m², while on the rest of the material’s surface the energy has stayed at its initial level of about 30 mJ/m².
Attendees, mostly from the automotive, medical, aerospace and electronics industries, discussed their needs with the plasma experts. Numerous manufacturers commissioned PTUS to carry out test runs on their own products at the new Plasmatreat Technology Center in Elgin, IL.
