Film systems: Plasmatreat’s Openair® plasma technology for efficient cleaning of aluminum foil
Coating of composite materials
Plasmatreat’s Openair® plasma is a simply applied and environmentally friendly method for cleaning aluminum surfaces. Composite films are employed especially for the production of packaging for beverages or foods in order to keep the packaging units gastight. In these cases thin aluminum foil (aluminum layer) serves as a coating. The aluminum is additionally coated with PE to ensure that it does not come into direct contact with the contents.
Removal of oil and dirt
In the film system the aluminum is pretreated with Plasmatreat’s Openair® plasma so that it can form an optimum composite material with the film of PE. All organic substances such as dirt and oil are broken down on the surface of the material by the plasma energy. The plasma jets are integrated “in-line” into the existing overall process avoiding costly production process alterations.
The annealing process frequently employed in industry is a comparatively time-consuming and energy-intensive process. Use of Plasmatrat’s technology can successfully reduce both the processing time and energy consumption thereby reducing production costs while at the same time protecting the environment.
