Digital printing offers manufacturers of furniture panels and parts virtually unlimited design flexibility. Wood effects, patterns or photographs can be printed onto different base materials to create visually stunning end products.
Water-soluble inks are becoming increasingly popular as they comply with environmental requirements whilst at the same time enabling cost-effective production.
The challenge, however, is to get the solvent-free inks to bond reliably to surfaces which may be unclean and, above all, non-polar.
Large-scale manufacturers no longer allow for changeover times. The desired motif or colour is printed onto the plastic films immediately before wrapping.
Benefits of integrating a plasma pretreatment system directly into existing equipment:
1. Optimum adhesion of ink to non-polar film (UV light is applied after printing to cure the water-soluble ink and ensure a long-time stable bond).
2. Plasma cleaning and activation of the substrate panels ensures that printed films bond reliably even to difficult materials such as plastics or recycled materials.
