Review of glasstec 2014: Successful premier for Plasmatreat

This year's glasstec 2014, which took place in Düsseldorf from the 21 to 24 October, attracted 1217 exhibitors and around 43,000 visitors from Germany and abroad.

The leading international trade fair showcases the entire glass supply chain on an unparalleled scale. Plasmatreat's attendance at this year's show was a first.

Under the slogan "The Next Generation of Glass Surface Treatment", Plasmatreat presented glass manufacturers and processors with the latest developments in microfine cleaning, decoating and nano-coating glass surfaces using atmospheric pressure plasma. Three fields summed up the diverse range of applications: Insulated glass and window production, special glass and its processing and the use of plasma for solar modules and electro conductive laminated glass.

When engaging with visitors, the show stand team – under the expert guidance of glass application specialists Peter Langhof and Bas Buser – drew on their extensive experience with the successful use of Openair-Plasma® technology in the glass industry.

For instance, a world market leader in the optics industry has been using this technology for years to microfine clean highly sensitive lenses. Or one of the largest perfume bottle manufacturers; each year they pretreat millions of luxury, premium quality perfume bottles with Openair-Plasma® prior to printing. Shower enclosure manufacturers, in turn, clean their glazing with Openair-Plasma® before applying an easy-to-clean coating, and then use a locally selective plasma jet to strip this coating off again in the areas that are to be bonded. It's a similar story in the automotive industry: Here, a leading manufacturer cleans the windscreen on the driver and passenger side with plasma before applying a dirt-repelling coating. Openair-Plasma® is then used to remove with millimeter precision this nano-coating in the 'lift-bar' bonding areas.

Visitors came from a wide variety of industry sectors and from countries all around the world. "Around 70% of visitors came from outside Germany", reports Philipp Albertmelcher, Marketing Manager of Plasmatreat GmbH, who summed up the trade fair as follows: "We are very satisfied with the outcome. Plasmatreat enjoyed a particularly successful tradeshow thanks to the large number of visitors right from day one and the enormous interest shown in our technology."
