The traditional cross hatch test, as a manual, analog, and highly user-dependent method, is no longer up to date. This challenge is at the center of an upcoming webinar hosted by KRÜSS. As Plasmatreat, we are excited to contribute to this discussion and demonstrate how our plasma technology plays a crucial role in precisely modifying surface properties to enhance coating adhesion.

In this third part of the KRÜSS webinar series on the Stood-up Drop (SUD) method, held in collaboration with BYK and Plasmatreat, the focus will be on dewetting analysis as a promising successor to the cross hatch test. Extensive comparative measurements show a strong correlation between the recently receded contact angle (RRCA) from the SUD method and traditional cross hatch data—offering a more modern, objective approach to adhesion testing.

Our Plasmatreat expert, Dennis Winkler, will join this webinar as a guest speaker to explain the role of plasma surface treatment:

  • How does plasma treatment modify the surface chemistry of polymers?
  • What advantages does this technology offer for improved adhesion?
  • How can the combination of SUD and plasma treatment set new standards in surface testing?

What to Expect in the Webinar

Dr. Andrew Mellor (Application Market Manager at KRÜSS) will provide a brief recap of the previous parts of the webinar series and introduce the fundamentals of wetting, dewetting, and the advantages of the SUD method over conventional techniques. Dennis Winkler from Plasmatreat will then explain the specific plasma treatment method used in this study and highlight why it is essential for achieving reliable adhesion test results. During the Q&A session, Dr. Mellor, Dennis Winkler, and Petra Della Valentina from BYK will be available to answer your questions.

Key Takeaways

  • Why the combination of plasma treatment and the SUD method is a groundbreaking approach for adhesion testing.
  • How the RRCA serves as a reliable indicator for coating adhesion and the effect of plasma treatment.
  • Why there is a strong correlation between RRCA and cross hatch results – and how this benefits real-world applications.
  • How plasma technology precisely modifies surface properties and ensures consistent, reproducible adhesion results.

This version makes it clear that KRÜSS is the webinar host, while Plasmatreat is contributing as a guest expert to highlight the impact of plasma technology.
