In profile coating, one detail often determines whether a product is rejected or goes into stable series production: the foil overlap. Especially with 360° coating, the seam area is subject to mechanical and thermal stress. If the surface is not properly activated there, seam detachment and thus complaints or rework are likely.

In this PlasmaTalk, we show how Openair-Plasma® activates surfaces inline, dry, and locally, thus creating the basis for reproducible film adhesion. The focus is on the profile coating of facade profiles and on an extended application that can be transferred to many other profile geometries and materials, depending on the substrate, film, adhesive system, and line layout.

What we will cover in detail

  • Profile coating of facade profiles: stable activation as the basis for secure film adhesion
  • 360° coating: why the seam area is critical and how to control it reliably
  • Film overlap: targeted treatment in the overlap area to reduce seam detachment
  • Scaling to other profiles: which boundary conditions are decisive and how to transfer the process cleanly
  • Integration into existing lines: compact, inline, without additional chemical steps

Typical pain points we address

  • Seam detachment or unstable adhesion in the overlap area
  • Fluctuating results due to material batches, additives, release agents, dust, or handling
  • Geometries where activation is not uniform throughout, especially with 360° coating

Who is this relevant for?

For production, process managers, quality and R&D in profile manufacturing and profile coating, especially for 360° coating and increased seam stability requirements.

Speaker

Joachim Schüßler (Global Business Development Manager) explains how adhesion in the film overlap area can be stabilized with 360° coating, what typically causes seam detachment, and how Openair-Plasma® can be integrated inline to reduce waste.
