In what situations is plasma contract treatment particularly useful?

  • Processing of initial samples & pilot series for rapid technical validation
  • Process validation as a recommended first step before moving on to pre-series or small series production
  • Small series production and pilot runs if inline integration is not yet planned
  • Bridging the gap until your own system is ready, for example until delivery or start-up
  • Testing of new materials and material combinations when substrates, adhesives, or coatings change

Our contract services

We offer plasma treatment as a clearly defined service. Our systems are designed for cleaning, activation, reduction, and coating and can be adapted to different component geometries and requirements.

Typical industries and components

Our contract processing supports teams in the automotive, electronics, medical technology, packaging, and renewable energy industries. This particularly often involves components where surface energy, cleanliness, or wetting directly determine yield and long-term stability:

  • Automotive: Plastic and metal components prior to bonding, painting, and sealing
  • Electronics: Assemblies and components prior to coating, potting, or assembly processes
  • Medical technology: Functional surfaces for defined adhesion and reproducible processes
  • Packaging: Printing and bonding processes on films and composite materials
  • Renewable energies: Components where adhesion and resistance are key

Tip: If you already know which subsequent process is critical, we will tailor the validation precisely to that.

Technologies in use — which plasma processes do we use?

We use different plasma processes depending on the material, geometry, and process objective. Our systems can be flexibly adapted to your application.

Atmospheric plasma processes (selective and inline):
Openair-Plasma® – for cleaning and activation on plastics, metals, glass, and composite materials
REDOX® – for targeted reduction or oxidation processes on metallic surfaces
HydroPlasma® – water-based, particularly sustainable treatment for sensitive materials

Low-pressure plasma processes (full-surface and batch processing)
AURORA-Plasma – chamber-based system for homogeneous plasma treatment under vacuum. Particularly suitable for sensitive, complex, or 3D-printed components with high purity requirements.

Coatings
PlasmaPlus® – for functional nanocoatings, e.g., corrosion protection or adhesion promoters

When you send us components for contract treatment, we select the appropriate process in close consultation with your application.

4-step process

1. Inquiry & target definition
You inform us of the component, material combination, and follow-up process. We clarify target values, boundary conditions, and test criteria.

2. Process validation in the laboratory (recommended)
We define a suitable process window, assist in determining parameters, and define quality characteristics appropriate to your component and your specifications.

3. Contract processing & small series production
After successful validation, we process your parts on our systems. Trained employees support the process, including defined setup and process standards.

4. Documentation & handover
You receive your parts back together with a complete treatment report. Documentation is always part of the service.

Process control, measurable results, documentation always

Depending on the application, we can document, among other things:

  • Degree of activation
  • Treatment width
  • Layer thickness

Process control and traceability are handled by Plasmatreat's Process Control Unit (PCU) to ensure that settings and results remain consistent. In addition, traceability for treated parts is an established part of our service concept.

Plasma technology supports sustainable production processes

Plasma treatment is not only precise, but also particularly environmentally friendly. Compared to conventional cleaning or pretreatment processes, plasma offers numerous ecological advantages:

  • No solvents or chemical residues
  • Reduction of VOC emissions
  • Low energy and resource consumption
  • Dry, contact-free process
  • Safe alternative to wet chemistry and primers

In this way, plasma helps to meet environmental requirements and establish sustainable process chains – without compromising on quality and reproducibility.

Available worldwide, wherever you develop and produce

Our plasma contract manufacturing is now available worldwide. Wherever Plasmatreat laboratories and systems are in use. What began as a regional service in North America has grown with our customers and their requirements. Today, companies in more than 30 countries benefit from a solution that is locally accessible and works in an internationally coordinated manner.

Plasmatreat combines global experience with direct proximity to your locations.
Our claim remains unchanged: solutions that work efficiently, have a lasting effect, and are process-reliable. An additional advantage: plasma can help to avoid the use of chemical cleaning agents, reduce VOC emissions, and make processes more environmentally friendly.
